The Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center is southern Colorado's premier arts destination, with six galleries, a children's museum, and performance spaces. It runs a School of Dance and School of Arts with interactive programs for children of all ages.
Weeklong drawing intensive building core skills like draftsmanship, gesture, character construction, and perspective. Students design their own characters with model, turnaround, and emotion sheets; companions the 2D animation class.
Explore acrylic painting fundamentals in a structured, skill-building setting, learning color mixing, brush techniques, and composition through guided exercises. Progresses toward a final finished painting students take home.
Learn the basics of crochet while creating handmade projects, covering essential stitches, pattern reading, and technique. Students complete a small project such as a coaster or pouch and keep their tools and yarn.
A hands-on beginner photography class covering composition, lighting, camera basics, and simple editing through daily creative shoots. Each student builds a small portfolio of finished images by week's end.
Hands-on introduction to clay hand-building, exploring pinch, coil, and slab construction while learning to shape and refine work. Pieces are fired for later pickup; select sessions may include basic glazing.
Hands-on class exploring 2D animation fundamentals like movement, arcs, timing, spacing, and pose-to-pose. Students create short animation experiments to bring their ideas to life; companions the Sketch Lab drawing class.
Collaborative class exploring how murals and public artworks are planned, designed, and executed. Students research real projects, develop a mock proposal, and transfer artwork onto a large surface using grid techniques like muralists.
Hands-on, skill-based class teaching pottery wheel fundamentals: centering clay, pulling walls, and shaping bowls and cups. Students create functional pieces that are fired and available for pickup later.

A nice art center with beautiful art from local artists, and a cool maker space. I enjoyed seeing the variety of local art, from photography to painting to sculptures. They also offer classes to make stuff, like a clay sculpting class that I didn't have time for that day but sounded interesting

View on Google ↗Come here once a year for an event put on for my childrens school. They always take good care of the school and everyone in attendance for the schools annual Empty Bowls Event to raise money for pueblos soup kitchenen and other local non profits. They dont raise millions but it instills in the kids the importance to help others less fortunate. This year all the classrooms made a gift basket for the silent auction plus all the ones that were donated by local businesses plus as part of the kids art projects they each create a bowl that either the parents can buy before the event or anyone can at the event. Plus it always the kids to perform in front of family and loved ones at the event and people from the community either as groups, solo or even the marching band with color guard.
