If you're coming here to lap swim or use the hot tub, don’t bother. The hot tub breaks every other week. They close the pool for 2 weeks in the summer for cleaning. Great, buy why during the summer when people actually want to use it? The lap pool is always booked with everything other than lap swimming (water walking, swim lessons, swim team). Unless you can come at 6 am or during a 1 pm lunch break you're pretty much screwed. Even if you call to make sure things are open and available, half the time they're not. Its clear their priority is how many kids they can get to pay for swim lessons not the rest of their members. And yes, my kids use those swim lessons but I'd rather have to wait a month to get in than fully block lap swimming at any reasonable hour. Also, the older childcare is often not open. If they don't have more than 3 kids they keep them in with the little kids. 4 year olds are in that room. Why offer that you have fun care for older kids and then don't actually offer it? Been going here for 3 years and its clear their only care is money not their members.

I joined the Y last month. It's convenient to my house and FREE for us older folks. My issues are small, but significant. I had 1 hour of a personal trainer included. She split that into 2 days . I didn't feel like she really cared, as she was rushed both times. Since joining, 1 machine in the "egym" program hasn't worked. With no training on it, if it's ever repaired I'm supposed to ask a personal trainer for help. I haven't seen ANY since I had my 2 25 minute sessions. One or the other pool seems down nearly every day due to contamination issues. So no pool for me so far...YUCK! Still, I'm better there than any other local gym.

This place has been life giving to me. I can’t say enough good things about it. As a sahm it is the one place I can go and have some me time. I feel confident that my son is in good hands. The child care workers know him by name, and show genuine care for him. The instructors, Jeni, Bitsy and Deidra in particular are fantastic. They are encouraging, fun and talented. I have come to love Zumba and group fight because of their coach in the community feel of the classes. Nancy and Jess are always ready to help in the front if I need anything or just to chat. They are incredibly friendly and diligent. The facilities are everything you need in gym with no fluff. I always see the custodial staff around keeping everything spick and span. I used to come to this Y as a kid and loved it then. Now as an adult, after a year of membership its one of my favorite places to be. I look forward to many more years for me and my family at the Y.

The staff is friendly and welcoming but the building, equipment, pool access, and childcare needs some serious work. Currently paying $160 a month and not really sure what it’s going towards. Most of the equipment is outdated. The parking lot is always in such bad shape that you risk damage to your car. They refuse to repave the entire lot and instead they just patch it. These patches last a couple months at best. The pool is difficult to access most of the year because they block it off for swim lessons. The staff just advises that you come before 4pm. So basically unless you’re retired you may not have access. The hot tub seems like it’s down more than it’s functioning. My largest complaint is the childcare. They advertise infant to 6 for one room and 7+ for the other. However, they rarely open the 7+ room so if you have older kids they will be forced play with toddler toys. We’ve started going to other locations to make the spend worth it. This one certainly isn’t.

I was tackled and thrown to the ground over a foul during a basketball game at the Briargate YMCA. As any respectable brother would, stepped in to defend me from an ongoing assault. Furthermore, the attacker 30 seconds later ran around the length of the court to once again start a fight and punch my brother blind sided across the head. Police responded, documented injuries, and informed us that my brother and I were being treated as OFFICIAL LEGAL victims. Despite that, the YMCA chose to permanently ban us. What was most disturbing was the response from Executive Director CHRIS SANDERS. He took the position that defending yourself or a family member during an assault was unacceptable and warrants a lifetime ban. Chris Sanders specifically said that “defending yourself against an attack is taking justice into your own hands”. When asked whether he would expect his own brother to simply stand by and be assaulted, he refused to answer and ended the conversation. The YMCA also refused to provide surveillance footage that could help establish exactly what happened. Rather than seeking the truth, they chose to punish the people who reported the assault. For an organization that promotes Christian values, fairness, truth, and standing up for others, this experience was deeply disappointing. Based on how this was handled, those values appeared to take a back seat to convenience and liability concerns. Once again I will repeat, CHRIS SANDERS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR has chosen convenience and company liability concerns over fairness, justice, and truth.
