Highlands Camp & Retreat Center

Highlands is a beautiful camp with varied lodging choices, lots of activities and recreation choices, and a very attentive staff. The views of Mount Meeker are stunning, and the varied trails, one with a nature guide and others with points of interest are so delightful. Our family reunion experience there was unforgettable!

I am writing this email to you in response to the recent allegations against myself and family. I am sure by now you have seen the messages exchanged between Christian and James. I am going to give you the facts of the situation and trust GOD will handle the rest. 1. Lights. TRUE Yes I left them on because I wanted whoever to see how clean it was upon there inspection. 2. Window Screen. TRUE. During a windstorm one of the screens blew off the house. I placed the frame and its components on the right side of the cabin 3. Thermostat. FALSE The thermostat is located behind a large piece of furniture that has a protective cage installed on it to prevent adjustment. 4. Cannabis & Cigars. YES I use cannabis and sometimes choose cigar paper as the method of consumption. I have a doctors prescribed medicinal patient license to do so. That is personal, private, protected information that I didn't feel necessary to disclose until this time. James would not know any of this had it not be from information provided by his sister Amber and her Holiness. Amber the onsite property manager has specifically said " do not tell James " and provided transportation and money for us to pick up and consume both cigars and alcohol on multiple occasions. If you pulled the company credit card from the time period james was in california you find receipt from the bullpen sports bar in estes park where Amber purchased alcohol using the Highlands Ranch Presbyterian and Retreat Centers company card. I know all about James, Amber, there kids, there spouses etc. I know how much money is on each of there company cards. This information is FACT and can be confirmed once the all mighty views the history of Ambers card use. We had 2 drinks and eggrolls. I am okay with my decisions and my relationship with "God" I bet James and Amber are questioning there's. If you need anything else from me about this.. This is NOT a place for adults. Our organization made the huge mistake of booking a team building retreat at this camp. We were informed less than a week before we arrived that they do not allow alcohol on the premises, even though they knew that was something we had expected. There was even a sign on the wall sternly informing anyone reading it that they would report you to the Sheriff if they caught you with alcohol. Seemed a bit draconian. One of our activities is to do a campfire together with s'mores and games and singing and the like. At 10pm a staff member came out and said we needed to put out the fire. We said, "sure, no problem, we'll make sure it's out when we're done". He said "no, I am putting it out now." And then proceeded to roll out a hose and sprayed it on the fire. We were all a little stunned, stared in disbelief, and just went inside at that point. The food options were limited and a little boring. Fine if you're doing a kids camp, but definitely not for adults who are paying a lot of money to come up here. We won't be going back.

Visited this camp and was served FROZEN breakfast sandwiches. They were not cooked and we were told to heat them up in a microwave. There were 14 of us eating and waiting to use the ONE microwave to heat up our own breakfast we paid for. This didn't happen just once but BOTH days we were there. This is unacceptable. The executive director called once the trip was over and was very rude. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!

This camp is amazing. I went to this camp for about 5-6 years when I was a child. I first went to their school age camp the summer before I started 5th grade. This was my first real camp experience and I loved it. Staying a cabin and meeting new friends. We did canoeing, horse back riding, archery, crafts, singing, hiking, s’more roasting. Then I found out that they had just horse back riding camps. I had always loved horses and of course would love a chance to spend more time riding horses. So the next summer I signed up for their rough riders camp. This was a three day camp where we learned how to tack and saddle the horses. We learned how to groom and feed them and basic riding skills. The next two summers I went to their Trail Blazers camp where we learned more horse skills and went on longer rides. It was so much fun. And then right before I started high school I went to their saddle soars camp. This was their back packing horse camp. While on this back packing trip one of the counselors got injured and I remember they took really good care of us and informed our parents about what had happened. I will always remember these summer camps and have fond memories of my time. I made many friends and had so much fun. If you are looking for a camp to send your children to I highly recommend their camps. Their horse camps are specifically great for a horse enthusiast child. Your child will get the real camp experience while also being well taken care of. I always felt safe while attending camp here and looked forward to it every summer!
