Fort Collins Museum of Discovery

If you’re staying in Fort Collins or passing through, I recommend immersing yourself at this Museum. It’s not super huge, but it can keep you busy for a couple of hours and it’s especially friendly for children, families, or if you’re a lone wonderer like me, it was fun. You get to read up on some Colorado history, but they have a little bit of everything. They had some insects, a garden path to walk through, activities in the museum that you can interact with such as musical instruments and testing your strength, and more. They have a small planetarium that can hold a good number of people on a busy day and very informative and awesome to look at and inexpensive. They have a decent amount of parking wrapped around the museum and I didn’t have trouble grabbing a spot. The staff here are wonderful too, very kind and knowledgeable about questions I had. I came a little late, but enough to enjoy almost 3 hours worth of museum time, but I also needed to hit the gift shop before I left. It’s a small little store but it has a bunch of things you can take home, gifts, souvenirs for all ages, toys and a ton more.

Fort Collins Museum of Discovery is a fantastic place to spend a few hours, especially with kids. The exhibits are thoughtful, engaging, and cover a wide range of topics, offering something for everyone. I really appreciated the strong ties to local Fort Collins history and culture—it adds a meaningful, personal touch to the experience. It’s very kid-friendly, interactive, and well-designed, making learning fun and accessible. A great mix of education and entertainment—highly recommend!

They are CLOSED on MONDAYS! Don’t make the mistake i did. So we showed up right at opening time 9am on Tuesday and we had a blast! There are three floors. The main floor is where everything is located. We spent SO much time in their music section. Specifically the drums, bass and mixing boards! This was something I’ve never seen in a museum before and we really loved it. I loved how you can have groups of three all jamming out together like a real band. There is also an animal section and an interactive area for kids to just play. If you have toddlers they have a closed section for them to play in as well. The second floor has the dome theater. You’ll have to grab tickets on the main floor and they typically always have different movies playing. We saw the accidental astronauts one. I would say it’s more for kindergarten to 3rd grade viewers. The top floor is for looking over the whole town. They have some really informative things to read up there.

Wow! So much cool stuff to see, hear, and touch!My granddaughter had a blast, but so did her dad and I. Lots of displays on local wildlife, physics, MUSIC, and earth science. Love this place and will be back.

We always love going to the museum! They have tons of interactive areas for kids. My kids specifically love the water activity and train tracks in the toddler area. The nature exhibit they have had recently is amazing! The other highlights are the music area where you can learn or just play on drums, guitars, and so many more instruments.
